My Story - Eric White Founder and Managing Director
When I began my leadership journey the only resource I had was to learn by from hard experience. I did not go to training for leadership like I did for my series 6 license, like the training I received about P&C Insurance, and even the training I was given for good customer service skills. If I received anything it was a an hour or two of an online course.
I learned to be a leader by observing other leaders - First - by what leadership traits and characteristics I did not care for and would not emulate - Second - by what leadership traits and characteristics I did care for and wished to emulate, and - Third - by trial and error on the job as a working leader.
From my first leadership role I set out with a deliberate aim to drive results and build an inclusive team-oreinted organization. Three cornerstones emerged in my leadership principles:
- Accountability
- Measurement
- Coaching
Over the next twenty-five years, as a Manager, Director, and Executive, my teams produced best in class results for Janus Mutual Funds, The Hartford P&C, and bolt tech. It wasn't an accident. It was a tried and true method of understanding how strong leadership teams make the difference in producing world class results. My mission throughout twenty five years of leadership was to produce leaders that could lean on a program and understand the links to accountability, measurement, and coaching and the results they produce.
Pursuing Excellence in Personal Performance
As a student of peformance and results, I wanted to understand how I could use my understanding of leadership principles to pursue athletic challenges.
My middle aged self was thirty pounds over weight, I was badly out of shape and knew I needed to change. I looked to the leadership princples -accountability, measurement, and coaching and I changed everything I was doing. I took on a running program, focused on specific goals, dietary changes, and utilizing a proven coach to help me attain my goals.
What started as 10k's moved to marathons, which in turn gave way to ultra marathons including two finishes in the grueling Leadville 100, 10,000 feet in elevation, with 16,000 feet of ascent and the daunting climb up Hope Pass.
In 15 years I have completed over 18 marathons and 28 Ultra Marathons using the leadership princples.
Now in my fifties and still doing endurance, I have taken on a new challenge. With no riding experience whatsoever, I am in training with my horse to do a 25 mile edurance ride, a 50 mile race, and 100 miles in 24 hours. Using the same leadership principles of accountability, measurement, and coaching, we are going to take it step by step, measuring the results, utilizing a proven coach to achieve the goal(s). Leadership princples in action.
